Mrs Jane Arden
Mrs Jane Arden

Ms Lin
Ms Hayward
Mr Benavides

Mrs Kirk
Mrs Kirk

Letter from the Headteacher
Mrs Jane Arden
Headteacher
This week I am brimming with pride, for our inaugural Art Exhibition has demonstrated to the whole of the school community how fantastic, funny, and creative our students are.
When I talk to my staff, I ask them to model to our students the 8Cs; I think you can see the commitment and craftmanship the Art teachers demonstrate. The work is a true testimony to their brilliance as well as the dedication.
I look forward to all the exhibitions that will happen over the coming years. I will finish this week with a quotation which to me sums up why art has to be on any school curriculum.
Art is a form of love. Art is the ultimate gift. Art heals life.
Best regards,
Mrs Jane Arden

LEHF Prep Parent Voice - Journey into the hearts of our parents and their love for LEH Foshan Prep School in this touching video.
ELL
Ms Lin
In Y5/6 ELL lessons with Ms Lin, we read the abridged book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. After reading, we worked on a book review starting with organising our ideas, the story plot, the highlights, etc. We then drafted our book review, edited it, and improved it. Finally, we created our own poster.
Art
Ms Hayward
Well done to our Year 3 and 4 students who completed their large mixed media artwork of an African Savanna. Students responded to the African Savana paintings of the Tinga Tinga painting style and work collaboratively to create this wonderful piece.
Students researched Tinga Tinga and learned how to draw African wild animals by breaking down the animals into simple geometric shapes. They then rounded off the shapes and applied colour gradients and patterns. Together they then painted a large landscape using acrylic paints. Finally, they had lots of fun making relief prints from bubble wrap and sponges to create the leaves for the trees.
Art Years 5 and 5/6- Masks to Scare the Slave Raiders
Year 5 and 5/6 tried on the masks that they worked so hard to design and make. Well done to our Year 5 and 5/6’s for demonstrating such a strong commitment to their artwork. Each mask is unique and has its own character. This demonstrates our students blossoming creative minds and ability to successfully experiment with varied materials, techniques and processes.
Design & Technology
Mr Benavides
After weeks of learning about levers and linkages, planning, sketching, and modelling, students of Year 3 and Year 4 have finally finished their linkages monsters, students had the autonomy to define colours, sizes, shapes, and any type of inspiration they wanted to use. Some monsters are horrifying, some of them are rather cute, they come in different sizes and styles; there is a big collection of monsters that apply physics concepts related to motion transmission, to use scissors mechanisms to control reciprocating movements and make the jaws of our monsters open and close, while at the same time enlarging and reducing its size.Students had so much fun designing their products, they had to accurately measure, cut, and assemble different materials to be able to produce their final device. I am very proud and happy of their effort and great results!

LEH Invitational Swim Meet Report
In May, LEH hosted its first invitational swim meet, inviting UISG, CIS and Tsinglan, to compete in a range of 50m individual races and team events. The students worked hard throughout all their events and several of our students were very successful, winning their races. LEH lost out to UISG for the “Year 5 & 6 Top Scoring School” trophy by 1 point, but this demonstrates the potential our students have as the team has only been training together for a short time. LEH won the “Overall Top Scoring School” trophy.

The FAW-Volkswagon Trip
What a wonderful opportunity for our Year 12 students. Obviously, theory is great but to have the chance to see a popular company and all the parts that make it so efficient and successful was much better. Year 12 got some hands-on experience, they had an opportunity to talk to expert engineers and key figures from the large factory of some 5000 employees. It was a fabulous trip, the students were super representatives for LEH Foshan and they really gained some great insight into the real world.
Mathematics
Mrs Kirk
The Maths Kangaroo competition results are in and LEH Foshan students secured 14 certificates over all the age groups, a great achievement.
Very special mention to Ryan in Year 7 who scored 109 points in the Grade 7 category achieving a silver award, and to Daijing who competed in the Grade 3 category and achieved silver with 91 points. (The grades are from the Australian system and so really test our students).
Well done to Antonio and Joanne who both achieved a bronze award in the grade 7 category. Well done to Emily and Antonia who both achieved bronze awards in the grade 4 category.
The proficiency awards go to Mathea, Tina, Tai, and Simon from year 7; Suki, Samantha, and Joanna from year 8 and Rachel from year 10.

Parent Teacher Conferences
Dr Kirk
On Thursday and Friday, Secondary School parents were invited into school to meet their child’s teachers for the final Parent Teacher Conferences of the year. For most students, this followed the end-of-year examinations which offered them an opportunity to demonstrate their recall, knowledge and understanding of the course content that they had studied since September.
